Iterate Weekly - Issue 12
Welcome to issue 12 of the Iterate weekly newsletter!
This week, I’ll be highlighting some of my own recent writing that you may have missed.
I’m also still looking for feedback from readers like you. How can I improve this experience for you? What do you like? What do you hate? What do you want more of?
Everyone who completes the short 5-question survey will be entered into a random drawing for an Amazon Gift Card!
You’ll see that the content here is broken down into 4 categories.
Tech - This will be the main focus of the newsletter. I’m dedicated to helping people improve their relationships with technology.
Learning - I consider myself an autodidact and like to examine the concept of learning how to be a more productive learner.
Health - None of these other topics are important if you’re not healthy enough to enjoy them.
Grab Bag - This could be something personal, something silly, something fun that doesn’t quite fit the other categories.
Finally, we’ll wrap things up with a quote of the week and a piece of content that I recommend you check out.

Do we really need smart mugs?
Recently, I wrote about one of my favorite and most extravagant pieces of technology. My Ember Smart Mug.
Using it is a delightful experience. I’ve shrugged off my insecurities and just owned up to the fact that I appreciate ridiculously unnecessary technology sometimes.
What kind of unnecessary tech do you have in your life?
Learning
How are you finding your next book to read?
Where are you finding your reading material?
The next book on your reading list is probably within the contents of the book you’re currently reading.
I’m always looking for quotes, jokes, and tangents that may lead me down the path to finding my next book. Be more intentional with your reading journey. You never know what you might find.

Is mindful VR possible?
I love the concept of VR. It allows me to explore new worlds without leaving my home. As someone who appreciates new technology, there may be nothing more promising and revolutionary than VR.
What I don’t love is how attaching a screen to your face can impact your ability to sleep. I’ve written about ways that I enjoy my VR set without letting it overtake my life (or at least my circadian rhythms).

How do we raise children in smart homes?
As my daughter approaches two years old, I’m starting to ask myself some tough questions.
Should I be encouraging her to speak with our Google Home devices as if they’re living, breathing members of our family? The word “Google” is a mainstay of her vocabulary these days and I”m not sure how to handle it.
Anyone else questioning the best way to raise a child in a smart home?

Content Recommendation
Prisoner of Trebekistan
I’ve been a lifelong fan of Jeopardy and an aspiring contestant. For anyone who watches the show regularly or dreams of appearing on it themselves, “Prisoner of Trebekistan” is the book for you.
Bob Harris is hysterical, earnest, witty, essentially everything a good Jeopardy contestant should be. I loved his stories and unorthodox trivia training methods. I can’t recommend it enough.
